Stephen King sees right through Trump’s ‘bogeyman’ strategy and it’s embarrassingly unoriginal

Wait 5 sec.

Donald Trump’s activities in L.A. have taken much of the U.S. by surprise. Sending in the National Guard has certainly ruffled many a feather — it seems to be the only thing people are talking about. While we’re all distracted, Stephen King has seen right through Trump’s ploy and he’s calling it out. The horror author posted his thoughts on Bluesky, the alternative to X. King claimed that the situation in L.A. with the National Guard was a distraction tactic on the president’s part. Trump is trying to draw our collective attention away from the real damage he’s doing at the moment. Trump's latest shitshow is to detract from inflation and his ruinous tariffs. As Hitler and Stalin knew, in times of trouble, find a bogeyman.— Stephen King (@stephenking.bsky.social) 2025-06-10T15:32:43.793Z Trump is trying to distract us Whether Trump is intentionally trying to distract us or not, the fact is his response to the protests in L.A. has drowned out any conversation regarding the damage he has caused to the U.S. economy with his failed tariffs. Inflation is on the rise, despite one of Trump’s key promises on the campaign trail being to bring down the prices of groceries. King compares the current president of the U.S. to Hitler and Stalin who used the same tactics, of all the people to copy your homework off of, why did Trump choose these two? King outlined the strategy Trump is seemingly employing, “in times of trouble, find a bogeyman,” well if anyone knows a thing or two about bogeymen it would be acclaimed horror author Stephen King. Anyways, in this case it seems Trump’s bogeyman is the same group it’s always been: immigrants. The Trump administration has been targeting foreign nationals since the very beginning. Even before he took office, Trump was demonizing people from other countries with lies too ridiculous to even think about entertaining. Remember when he tried to convince us that immigrants were eating people’s pets in Ohio? Is Stephen King onto something? Many responded to the author’s post agreeing with his take on the situation. One person wrote, “all this current ICE stuff is to distract us from the Trump Tax Bill, which is designed to destroy the middle class.”  But others wondered if Trump was actually trying to distract from something else, possibly Musk’s revelation that the president is apparently on the Epstein list. A third suggested it was actually the reverse and that the taxes and tariffs were a distraction from Trump’s plan to turn the U.S. into a “white Christian ethnostate.” Okay, this has all gotten a little conspiratorial. While it’s certainly possible Trump is trying to distract the masses, in my humble opinion we’re giving him too much credit. This would imply that Donald actually has a plan and this is all a calculated play, like a Chess master manipulating his pieces on the board. But this man can barely even read, it seems much more likely that Trump is just so incompetent he’s created too many problems and the media simply doesn’t know which to focus on.
