Gen. David Kasura-Kyomukama, Under Secretary Mrs. Aacha Mary Orikiriza expressed gratitude for the delegation’s interest in Uganda’s agricultural policies and partnerships. “We are honored to share our experiences in agricultural transformation and food security with our Nigerian counterparts,” she stated. “Uganda believes in a multi-sectoral approach, where government institutions and the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) collaborate to enhance agricultural productivity in alignment with Vision 2040.”The delegation was briefed on MAAIF’s achievements under the Agro Industrialization Program of the National Development Plan 3, which is set to conclude on June 30, 2025. During the discussions, the visiting delegation displayed keen interest in Uganda’s application of technology to mitigate climate change effects on agriculture and wildlife management—critical components in ensuring sustainable food security through disease control interventions.Maj. Gen. U.M. Alikali, Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria, applauded Uganda’s model of involving the Armed Forces in agricultural development. “Uganda’s commitment to integrating defense forces in food security is commendable,” he remarked. “In Nigeria, we have similarly adopted this approach, with our Armed Forces managing multiple farms across the country to enhance agricultural production and resilience.”The delegation also noted Uganda’s structured approach to land tenure policies. Brig. Gen. A.M. Dikko, Team Leader of the Faculty, praised Uganda’s system that enables private land ownership. “Uganda’s land tenure system allows for individuals to own land, ensuring personal investment in optimal land utilization,” he observed. “This differs from our system, where land ownership is managed by the state, and the burden of maximizing land use falls upon state resources.”Brig. Gen. A. M. Dikko (L), Team Leader from the FacultyAs part of their visit, the Nigerian delegation was treated to freshly brewed Ugandan coffee and milk, courtesy of the Coffee Development and Dairy Development departments of MAAIF. “Uganda’s coffee has an incredible flavor profile, truly world-class,” one delegation member remarked enthusiastically. In appreciation, the guests were presented with coffee, honey, dairy products, and traditional art and craft souvenirs, symbolizing Uganda’s rich agricultural heritage. In her concluding remarks, Mrs. Orikiriza emphasized Uganda’s growing role in international agricultural collaboration. “This exchange underscores Uganda’s leadership in innovative food security strategies, strengthening ties between our nations to foster sustainable agricultural solutions for future generations,” she said.
