A 24-year-old female student from the city was duped of over â¹1.27 lakh in a part-time job fraud promising high investment returns.The student received a message on Telegram app on June 4, 2024 from a user with the handle @Kiran_k_101. The scammer added her to a group called âGP Discussion 063â and claimed to offer her a job at âGodrej Propertiesâ, with a daily income of â¹5,000. He also pushed an investment scheme, assuring quick and high returns.To build trust, the fraudster sent fabricated screenshots of online transactions and initially asked the victim to transfer â¹10,000, promising a return of â¹15,000 within 30 minutes. He later demanded â¹31,572 with a promise of returning â¹70,000 within 30 minutes. He then requested her to send â¹65,000, claiming that she would receive â¹2.12 lakh in return on June 30. On June 4, he requested a final transfer of â¹20,000, promising a payout of â¹7.38 lakh.He directed the victim to a fake trading website to make the scheme appear credible. All the payments were made through the Vyom app. After realising she had been conned, the victim approached the police.
