When I was a law clerk a woman filed a subpoena seeking the Humane Society’s adoption records of a particular animal. At the time I thought that the woman was trying to find the person who adopted her pet that was found as a stray. When the Humane Society came in to quash the subpoena we learned that she would plan a 6+ week long vacation and surrender her pet instead of paying for a sitter. She had done this at least 8 times with the same animal before it got adopted.
