In the lead up to the 2025 NFL Draft, all eyes were fixed firmly on where top rookie prospect Shadeur Sanders would land. But little attention was drawn to the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback’s teammate and older brother, Shilo.Shilo (left), Deion (center), and Shedeur (right) made waves in ColoradoGettyAfter going undrafted, the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive back Deion Sanders, who almost lost his left foot last year, was picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Shortly after, he agreed to a three-year, $2.9 million deal with the Florida outfit. But, in one of his first financial moves after signing his rookie contract, the former Colorado safety had just one thing in mind: giving back to his college teammates. It then came to light that he had gifted all of his former team Apple Watches, dropping a reported $400k in the process. It was new Buffaloes defensive lineman Tawfiq Thomas who publicized Sanders’ kind gesture, showing off his brand new Apple Watch in a video posted to Instagram. “Apple Watch after workout, Yes sir, Shilo! Yes, sir Shilo,” is just some of what can be heard from Thomas in the video. This signal of thanks may not have come as a surprise to many, as Sanders was a prevalent voice in the Buffaloes’ defensive leadership group during his two-year tenure at Colorado. However, the 25-year-old’s financial struggles have been well documented over the last few years, so much so that it resulted in him having to file for bankruptcy back in October 2023. This came after Sanders accrued an estimated $11.3 million in debt, with his financial troubles primarily stemming from a lengthy legal battle in a civil trial in Texas in 2022Nonetheless, that doesn’t appear to have deterred the star safety from splashing out – quite considerably, too – on his old teammates. The safety enjoyed a four-year college career, the first two of which he spent in the SEC with South Carolina before transferring to Colorado in an all-family affair with Shadeur as his quarterback, and Deion his head coach. He played a total of 34 games – 22 of which came as a member of the Buffaloes – in which he recorded 170 combined tackles, four tackles for loss, and three fumble recoveries. But his biggest highlight play undoubtedly came in Colorado’s game with their arch rivals, the Colorado State Rams in 2023, where he recorded his only career interception, returning it for an 80-yard pick six as the Buffaloes went on to claim a 43-35 victory after two overtime periods. With him known for his relentless work ethic and dedication to honing his craft, next up on the list for Sanders to accomplish is to make the Bucs’ final 53-man roster, and lace his cleats up on an NFL field for the very first time.
