Typhoon Wutip, a severe tropical storm, made landfall on Hainan Island, China, late Friday, marking the second time in 70 years the island has experienced the country's first typhoon of the year. With maximum sustained winds of 30 meters per second, Wutip prompted evacuations, school closures, and transportation cancellations in Guangdong province.
