But according to President Donald Trump, the situation has taken a dramatic turn.“Remember eggs? That’s down from $6.55 per dozen during the week ending Jan. 24, 2025 — a decline of roughly 60% since Trump’s inauguration. A sharp drop, no doubt, but a far cry from 400%.Of course, eggs are just one part of the grocery bill, and food prices remain a burden for many American households. The Food in U.S. City Average Consumer Price Index has climbed roughly 26% over the past five years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.In other words, while headline inflation has cooled since peaking at a 40-year high of 9.1% in June 2022, food prices remain stubbornly high.
