Samsung new XR headset screen has 20,000 nits peak brightness

Ahead of the launch of Samsung's first XR headset this year, the South Korean firm's display division showcased its newest products and technologies at the Augmented World Expo (AWE) USA 2025. It uses Micro Lens Array (MLA) to enhance brightness and viewing angles. This technology was used by LG in its OLED TVs in 2023 and 2024. Previous generation panels in the family had much lower brightness. A panel showcased in 2023 could reach 5,000 nits, while the one displayed in 2024 had 10,000 nits peak brightness.The company's flagship RGB OLEDoS product is a 1.4-inch panel with 5,000ppi pixels density, 15,000 nits peak brightness, and a 120Hz variable refresh rate. Both these panels were first showcased at the SID 2025 expo last month.Samsung Display also showcased a 1.3-inch White OLEDoS panel with 4,000ppi pixel density and up to 10,000 nits peak brightness. eMagin, a US-based Micro OLED panel maker that Samsung Display acquired last year, showcased an ultra-compact 0.62-inch White OLEDoS panel and an RGB OLEDoS panel with a pixel density of 2,600ppi. The mass production of the White OLEDoS panel has already started, and the mass production of the RGB OLEDoS panel is scheduled to start next year. Samsung Display showcased its 27-inch and 49-inch QD-OLED gaming monitors in a gaming-themed room. It also contained the Steam Deck OLED, which uses Samsung Display's OLED panel. The room also had a Flex Gaming portable gaming console prototype with a foldable OLED panel. The South Korean firm also showcased a 12.4-inch Rollable Flex OLED panel that folds and rolls at the same time. It also displayed a Flex S multi-foldable OLED panel that folds multiple times, which makes it great for a device that can turn from a smartphone into a full-fledged tablet.
