Universal Trolls Disney Over Muppet*Vision 3D ClosureDisney fans can be hard to please, though, with so many rides, attractions, shows, hotels, and experiences, Walt Disney World is bound to have something that everyone can enjoy. From thrill rides like Expedition Everest and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to classic dark rides like Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion, Disney World’s collection of rides is relatively robust.Newer attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and TRON Lightcycle / Run have rounded out the resort’s coaster selection quite nicely, with several exciting new attractions on the way. Disney World is also home to several live shows, such as Festival of the Lion King, Fantasmic, and Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, all of which are great ways to kick back and relax. However, 3D shows are an often-overlooked part of any theme park, let alone Walt Disney World, with the resort previously featuring multiple screen-based shows. Disney World has closed two of these attractions recently, sparking controversy, confusion, and even anger among the fandom.Credit: DisneyRelated: Disney World’s New Muppets Ride Could Include Scenes From ‘Christmas Carol’The closure of Muppet*Vision 3D, specifically, has proven to be a sticking point among diehard fans, with many labeling it a Disney mistake.Muppet*Vision 3D opened on May 16, 1991, just one year after the death of Muppets creator Jim Henson. The 4D show was Henson’s final project before his passing, adding another layer of magic to the already magical attraction. The show was a 17-minute 4D experience, meaning effects happened on screen and in real life. During the show, guests watched as The Muppets came to life around them in animatronic form. Bubbles, wind, and other effects also came alive in the theater.Muppet*Vision 3D’s ending was a sight to behold, blending digital and practical effects together to create an unforgettable grand finale. The show officially closed on June 8, 2025, along with the entirety of Muppets Courtyard. Here is where guests could find dining establishments like PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose Ristorante Italiano, as well as some shopping and hangout spots. Muppets Courtyard was also home to arguably one of the best restrooms in Walt Disney World. To say guests are upset about the closure of Muppets Courtyards, specifically Muppet*Vision 3D, would be an understatement. Many have labeled the decision a huge mistake by Disney. On its final day, hundreds upon hundreds of guests showed up to support Muppet*Vision 3D and experience the wackiness of Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, and Gonzo one last time.Specifically, fans have taken issue with the fact that Disney World is losing one of its most unique attractions. Sure, Muppet*Vision 3D is not as intense as Space Mountain nor as immersive as Peter Pan’s Flight, but there’s no denying how special and genuinely funny the show was. Very few attractions offer the number of practical elements and pieces used in Muppet*Vision 3D.Fans have also questioned the fact that Muppet*Vision 3D was Jim Henson’s last work. As such, the attraction has not just served as a theme park attraction but as a living memorial or tribute to the legendary creative.Credit: DisneyRelated: Magic Kingdom’s New Nighttime Parade Will Take Up HOURS of Your TimeMuppet*Vision 3D was also a big people-eater, an underappreciated aspect of the attraction. Many have claimed that it was not that popular and consistently empty, and as such, it was rightfully closed. However, Muppet*Vision 3D could hold over 500 people in its theater, with an estimated total hourly capacity of 2,000 guests. This is more than Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom. While crowds may seem like a good indicator of something’s popularity, the fact that Muppet*Vision 3D always had a seat or two empty meant guests were going in and coming out at a consistent, steady basis, something that was good for guests visiting the park. The show also really, if ever, closed for maintenance during the day. The attraction did get a significant refresh in 2023, but Muppet*Vision 3D has been a very reliable part of the parks.Disney has big plans for the now-defunct Muppets Courtyard section of its Hollywood Studios theme park. During the company’s D23 event last year, Disney laid out its plans for Walt Disney World, revealing several exciting, bold, and ambitious projects. This included a new Monsters Inc.-inspired land, which was confirmed for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Eventually, Muppets Courtyard will give way to Monstropolis, the fictional city seen in Pixar’s classic animated film. The new land will feature a number of new Monsters Inc.-themed locations, including a suspended roller coaster, a first for Walt Disney World. While gone, Muppet*vision 3D will likely not be forgotten anytime soon.
