'Hausala Rakho, Ahmedabad' (Stay Strong, Ahmedabad), a hoarding reads as one exits the Ahmedabad-Vadodara expressway to enter Gujarat’s financial capital.At once, the hoarding is a show of strength and a reminder of the enterprising spirit of a city that accounts for a quarter of India’s equity turnover.On June 12, an Ahmedabad-London Air India flight AI171 crashed moments after takeoff, killing all but one of the 242 people onboard, in the deadliest aviation incident in more than a decade. The lone survivor is being treated at the hospital that's attached to the medical college where the Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed.Among the dead were three members of the Nanda family — Cargo Motors Pvt. founders Pramukh Nanda and his wife Neha Nanda, along with son, Prayas Nanda, were travelling to London to attend the convocation of their elder son Pratham."It is a moment of great grief and sorrow for the family… that we cannot express in words. The entire family is in shock," Vimal Gujral, the granduncle of Pramukh Nanda, told NDTV Profit at their home in the city. The house was already being prepared to receive the bodies."The DNA samples have been given, as is the procedure. We have been assured that as and when the procedure is done, we will be handed over the bodies."Pramukh Nanda's great-grandfather, Yash Pal Nanda, started Cargo Motors in 1959, with a dealership for trucks made by Tata Engineering and Locomotive Co. or Tata Motors Ltd. now. Today, Cargo Motors operates 73 dealerships and 30 workshops across Gujarat, National Capital Region, Punjab and Rajasthan, for automakers like Tata Motors, JSW MG Motor Pvt., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and BYD Co.Pramukh Nanda's brother, Pranav Nanda, heads the Concept Group — one of the largest retailers of Hyundai Motor India. Additionally, he has showrooms of Honda Cars India, Jeep, Harley-Davidson and Kawasaki.It's too early to discuss succession at Cargo Group. Pramukh Nanda is survived by his elder son, Pratham, and extended family, led by Pranav Nanda."We are getting all kinds of help, the business community in Ahmedabad is with us," Gujral said. "We have been inundated with calls… The Nanda family was prominent in Gujarat." Lubi PumpsSubhash Amin, the founder of Lubi Industries LLP, was also among the deceased. Lubi is into manufacturing of water pumps and valves, and EV components. It's also the principal sponsor of the Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL team.  While the Amin family refused to speak with NDTV Profit citing the sensitive nature of the situation, people aware of the matter said that Amin was accompanied by a female member of the family on the flight. The purpose of their visit to London wasn't immediately known.Among the deceased was Mina Patel, the wife of DP Patel, secretary of Rajpath Club — a favourite among the who's who of Ahmedabad. Among them was Badruddin Halani, a prominent businessman with strong ties with former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who too was among the crash victims.At 1:17 pm on June 12, Halani announced his UK trip with wife Yasmin and sister-in-law Malek on Facebook. Then, he called his brother from the plane just before takeoff at 1:27 pm. By 1:39 pm, the plane had crashed.Halani and his wife were headed to London to spend time with his grandchildren. He had also planned to go to the US to raise funds for an RSS-affiliated Sainik School in Silvassa, his dream project."He (Badruddin) was dedicated to social service. The Sainik School in Silvassa was his dream project," brother Rajubhai Halani told NDTV. "He was also an emotional grandfather who wanted to spend time with his grandchildren in London.""Both my daughters were very much excited to meet their grandparents," son Asim Halani, who reached Ahmedabad on June 13, told NDTV. "They made greeting cards for them. Now who will they give the cards to?"Halani was previously settled in Vapi, where he did some business.
