One day after Walt Disney World Resort confirmed the immediate removal of an original part of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover attraction, Inside the Magic has the story of several guests’ evacuation from the Magic Kingdom Park ride.On June 16, Inside the Magic reported that Disney cast members had officially removed the historic metal turnstile at the entrance to the uphill moving walkway that takes riders to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. This nostalgic piece of the attraction had been there since it opened almost 50 years ago, and it was removed with little fanfare.Credit: DisneyThe Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover opened at Magic Kingdom Park on July 1, 1975, following Disneyland Park’s version of the attraction in 1967. Disneyland Resort shuttered its PeopleMover in 1995, and though the ride’s tracks remain, Walt Disney World Resort is the only Disney park worldwide currently operating an original PeopleMover attraction.Earlier this month, Stevie Wilde (@wildeabouttravel_ on TikTok) shared her experience evacuating the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover at Magic Kingdom Park. First, the guest shared a video of herself walking down the elevated ride track after the attraction abruptly shut down: @wildeabouttravel_ The Disney peeps will know what ride! Turns out, that wasn’t the case.”Guests’ moods shifted after the ride stopped multiple times in just a few minutes.Credit: Disney“About the fourth or fifth time of it stopping, it never turned back on,” Wilde continued. “They try to reboot it for, I would probably say, about a half hour to 45 minutes, and it just wouldn’t turn on. So they had to evacuate us off of the ride.”Disney cast members helped ensure Wilde and her family made it to their dinner reservation without penalty because of the ride breakdown. They also compensated them for their experience.“We got free FastPasses,” the guest recalled.Credit: DisneyIt’s unclear what caused this Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover breakdown. According to the My Disney Experience app, the Walt Disney World Resort attraction was operating normally at the time of this article’s publication. If you get stuck on a Walt Disney World Resort ride, remain seated and don’t tamper with safety restraints. Usually, attractions restart within a few minutes, but await instructions from Disney cast members in case an evacuation is necessary.Has a ride breakdown impacted your Disney Parks vacation?
