VACB arrests two on bribery charges

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) arrested a village field assistant and a former village assistant on charges of taking bribe for allotting patta for land.The arrested are Thambi, a former village assistant of Chowwara, and Navas, a village field assistant.According to the VACB, the complainant, a Kakkanad native, applied for 1.24 acres of his land at the Chowwara village office. Subsequently, the officials reportedly inspected the property on April 24. They allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹10,000. However, the complainant was unable to meet their demand.As his application was kept pending, the complainant approached the officials, and they allegedly repeated the demand. He then approached the VACB, which laid a ‘trap’ and nabbed Thambi red-handed, the VACB said. Navas was also arrested shortly.Published - June 04, 2025 02:00 am IST
