Walt Disney World Resort’s most loyal guests have lost access to the Magic Kingdom theme park this month, and this is the reason why.Credit: Paul Beattie, FlickrMagic Kingdom’s changes have hit headlines all over the world. Notably, overhauling the Frontierland area has been the center of immense discourse as Disney wrangles with honoring the old while bringing new experiences to its millions of guests. In Frontierland and another area, “Beyond Big Thunder,” Disney World will welcome Pixar’s Cars franchise as well as the Disney Villains cohort. The Cars area will be known as Piston Peak National Park. There is no opening date for this Magic Kingdom land yet, but guests visiting The Most Magical Place on Earth this summer will get a dose of new magic with the arrival of Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away on Sunday, July 20, 2025.Credit: DisneyThe parade’s route and times–9 p.m. and 11 p.m.–were recently shared, creating more excitement for guests. The return of the nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom Park is big news and will usher in changes for how the Disney park will operate in the evening. As an evolution of the Main Street Electrical Parade, Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away features technology never seen before at the Disney theme parks.Credit: Disney“When we think about what this storytelling looks like at night, we think about creating these landscapes–or dreamscapes, as we think about them–out of light,” Disney Parks Blog wrote in a recent announcement. “How do we use this medium to portray movement, color, and imagery that we would normally see in a more scenically driven float during the daytime? Today’s technology gives us more options than ever to use lighting and video elements as a storytelling tool.”While excitement is high, one group of guests won’t be able to book themselves into Magic Kingdom this month, specifically on July 20.“Walt Disney World’s Park Pass reservation calendar is now showing July 20, 2025, the official debut of Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, as at capacity for Annual Passholders at Magic Kingdom,” WDWMagic stated last month. “No additional passholder reservations are currently available for Magic Kingdom on that date.”Credit: DisneyWhile the park reservations for Magic Kingdom on July 20 have officially been booked up, Annual Passholders may still think they can get into the park in time to experience Disney World’s new offering. However, a new temporary change has taken effect beginning July 20.“For a Limited Time, Starting July 20, 2025: Passholders will continue to be able to enter EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park after 2 p.m. without a theme park reservation,” the official Theme Park Reservation page reads on the Walt Disney World website. “However, due to anticipated high demand upon the debut of the Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away parade on July 20, 2025, Passholders visiting Magic Kingdom park at any time of day (including after 2 p.m.) must have a theme park reservation.”Usually, Passholders can book a pass to another theme park—say EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, or Hollywood Studios—and, after entering that park, hop into another, say Magic Kingdom. Of course, as the fine print reads, attendance at any Disney World theme park is subject to availability.Credit: DisneyAnnual Passholders can enter any park without a reservation after 2 p.m. (unless they are deemed “Good-To-Go” days). Still, this perk is unavailable at Magic Kingdom Park on Saturdays or Sundays. With the arrival of Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away on Sunday, July 20, this is not a viable option for Passholders even if the temporary change hadn’t taken effect. How do you feel about the park being at capacity for Annual Passholders?
