Sig Sauer has reached an annual milestone by producing 100 million rounds of 6.8-millimeter ammunition at its factory in Jacksonville, Arkansas. This achievement bodes well for the American small arms contractor’s efforts to double its shell output over the next few years. It also reflects the company’s dedication to its role as a prime industry collaborator under the US Army’s ongoing Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program, which provides a common munition with enhanced “lethality and probability” for troops.Since 2017, Sig Sauer has invested more than $225 million in infrastructure and equipment to expand its manufacturing operations in Arkansas. Its work in the state has also created over 600 local jobs and is contributing around $300 million to the region’s economy per year.Sig Sauer now operates six major hubs across approximately 100 acres (404,686 square meters) of land in Jacksonville. The site recently added a new 210,000-square-foot (19,510-square-meter) building for its production.Soldiers executes squad live fire of Next Generation Squad Weapons (NGSWs). The NGSW is coupled with modern fire control for precision or burst shots.Sig Sauer is also set to field its XM5 and XM250 ambidextrous rifles as the program’s main components.A Ranger with the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment engages targets during squad live fire of Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW).
