Green Movement, a Kozhikode-based environmental organisation, has demanded that the Central government back out of the deep-sea sand mining projects in Kollam, Alappuzha, and Ponnani on the grounds that it will have an adverse impact on marine life as well as the livelihood of fishermen. In a press release, Green Movement general secretary T.V. Rajan said the move would result in the collapse of sea walls, thereby raising the chance of coastal erosion. It would also restrict the right of States in the coastal area to just fishing, he added.Published - June 24, 2025 09:26 pm IST
