(File Photo)The Firozabad police on Friday gunned down a criminal wanted in connection with a double murder case. Police said the accused carried a bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head.Police identified the deceased as Raju Khan, a resident of Shahganj in Agra. A pistol and several cartridges were recovered from his possession, police claimed.Superintendent of Police, Firozabad, Saurabh Dixit, said the accused was a “habitual offender who often targeted vulnerable persons.”According to the police, they got a tip-off about the accused’s presence at an under-construction house on Puratan Road, where he was reportedly hiding and planning a dacoity.A team was dispatched and the area was cordoned off.Police claimed that Khan was urged to surrender but he opened fire at the team. The police retaliated and he suffered bullet injuries. He was taken to a hospital, where he died during treatment, said police.Khan had been accused of barging into the house of one Munna Lal Yadav in Bansinagar with the intention to loot. Munna Lal and his wife Mithlesh were asleep at an open plot located next to their house. According to the police, Khan murdered Lal and his wife before fleeing with valuables.Story continues below this adIn another incident on the intervening night of June 14 and 15, a group of persons allegedly attacked and injured an elderly woman, Suraj Mukhi, at her residence during a robbery attempt.Police examined CCTV footage from near both crime scenes and found that the modus operandi in both cases was similar. Based on this and other evidence, the accused was identified as Khan.Investigations revealed that he used to travel from Agra to Shikohabad in Firozabad using rented vehicles.
