MTN Uganda, in partnership with Bayobab Uganda, Maendeleo Foundation, Clinic Pesa, MUBS Entrepreneurship Centre, Towerco of Africa Uganda, and several other stakeholders, concluded the 2025 edition of its flagship staff volunteerism campaign, 21 Days of Y’ello Care, with a significant contribution to the Tooro Kingdom. As part of the initiative, MTN Uganda commissioned a fully equipped ICT hub at Best Nursery and Primary School in Fort Portal. The facility features ten internet-enabled computers and is powered by solar energy, enabling continuous learning access for the school’s 484 pupils—and the wider community during school holidays. The school also houses 30 orphans and vulnerable children aged between 3 and 6 years at the Queen Mother Best Orphanage. In a multi-faceted upgrade to their living conditions, MTN and its partners installed a solar system, partitioned the dormitories to provide separate accommodations for boys and girls, planted fruit trees, delivered mattresses, books, and play materials, leveled the playground, and installed new equipment.“This initiative goes beyond technology. It’s about restoring dignity, expanding opportunity, and strengthening communities from the ground up,” said MTN Uganda CEO Sylvia Mulinge during the handover. The Queen Mother of Tooro, Her Royal Highness Best Kemigisa Akiiki, praised the partnership, calling the support a “blessing” and “the greatest investment in the future of Tooro.”Furthering the campaign’s impact, MTN Women@Work—an internal women-led volunteer initiative—raised UGX 20 million for Tooro Babies Home. The funds will support medical care and daily essentials for orphaned infants. Donations also included cooking oil, detergents, and entertainment equipment.Towerco of Africa Uganda CEO Pramesh Ramparsad highlighted the sustainability aspect of their involvement, noting that the solar energy systems would cut the orphanage’s electricity costs by up to 70% and offer cleaner, more reliable power.“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to reducing carbon footprints while unlocking new opportunities for learning and growth,” said Ramparsad.Held under the theme “Connecting at the Roots – Connecting Communities through Digital Tools,” the 2025 campaign implemented similar projects across Uganda. These included partnerships with Kampala Capital City Authority, Nnabagereka Development Foundation, Busoga Kingdom, and Alur Kingdom to promote digital inclusion, healthcare, agribusiness, and youth empowerment.“The ICT hub is a game-changer,” said Abraham Okiring, head teacher at Best Nursery and Primary School. “Our learners now have access to tools that spark curiosity and confidence.”MTN Uganda reaffirmed its long-term commitment to community transformation through its Ambition 2025 strategy, focused on enhancing digital and financial inclusion, particularly in underserved areas.“This may mark the end of this year’s Y’ello Care, but our journey with Tooro continues,” Mulinge emphasized. “We will keep walking alongside the people of this Kingdom to build a more connected, empowered, and inclusive Uganda.”The campaign, first launched in 2007, is MTN’s signature employee volunteer program that mobilizes staff—referred to as MTNers—to use their time and skills to create lasting community impact. The post MTN Uganda and Partners Empower Tooro Kingdom with ICT Hub and Orphanage Support During 21 Days of Y’ello Care Campaign appeared first on The Insider.
