Hindustan Zinc Targeting Doubling Metal Production, Says CEO Arun Misra

Hindustan Zinc Ltd. is targeting two million tonnes of metal production per annum capacity—double of what it currently produces, according to Chief Executive Officer Arun Misra. The company will be taking the board's approval on capacity expansion in a phased manner in the next three months.The two-million tonne target will be a 80:20 ratio between zinc and lead, Misra told NDTV Profit. "We will add roughly 1.6 million tonnes of zinc, 1.4 million tonnes of lead and 1,500 tonnes of silver," he said. Currently, Hindustan Zinc has 1.1 million tonnes per annum metal capacity.The company expects capacity expansion to double its revenue and Ebitda, he said. The total metal capacity of the company will be 1,379 kt post expansion.The Vedanta unit wants to expand its mines, put up new mills for processing the ore, facility for lead smelting as well as an additional silver refinery, the CEO said.Hindustan Zinc expects 14% IRR from its current capex plan. "The annual capex outlay will be largely funded by internal accruals. The company plans to launch all programmes on ground three months from now," he said.We do not see any risk from war in the Middle East as most of our exports are to South East Asian countries, he said. Hindustan Zinc's Growth Prospects Are Clouded By Funding WoesExpansion Plans In its first phase, Hindustan Zinc will be announcing 2,50,000 tonnes of zinc smelting capacity in Devari, that is expected to produce about 30 tonnes of silver per annum."We will also expand our Rampura Agucha mine and put up a mill there to process the ore. We will have an overall expenditure of Rs 12,000 crore and the metal producing capacity will go up to 1.4 million tonnes," said Misra.The company will put up another 4,50,000 tonnes of zinc smelting capacity, 2,00,000 tonnes of lead smelting capacity and another 700-750 tonnes of silver refineries, and other infrastructure that is required along with it, the top executive said.The stake stale by the government will increase the free float, though there is nothing on it yet, he said.Hindustan Zinc's Growth Prospects Are Clouded By Funding Woes.
