A landslide blocked one of the four-lanes on the Amba Ghata-Danta road in Banaskantha district’s Danta taluka after heavy rainfall, but swift action by the State Roads and Building Department (R&B) ensured the road was quickly cleared and reopened.The area received 226 mm (8.90 inches) of rain in the last 24 hours, prompting Banaskantha district authorities to take precautionary measures during the rainy season.Meanwhile, the weather department has issued an orange alert till June 26 with a heavy rainfall warning till June 28 for Gujarat.According to the weather department, Amirgadh in Banaskantha recorded 127 mm (5 inches) of rain in just four hours on Sunday morning, with 147 talukas reporting rainfall by 6 pm.A trough extending from south Pakistan to Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, central parts of Rajasthan, northwest Madhya Pradesh coupled with cyclonic circulation, associated with low pressure, over central parts of south Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, has prompted the weather department to issue an orange alert for Gujarat until June 26, with a heavy rainfall warning extended until June 28.Talukas in Jamnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, Rajkot, Valsad, Surat, Navsari recorded heavy rainfall on Sunday. According to the weather department, 14 dams in Gujarat are on ‘high alert’, nine on ‘alert’ and 11 kept under ‘warning’.At least eight dams are completely filled while 99 are filled to 25 per cent of their capacity and 57 dams are filled to 25 to 50 per cent capacity.Story continues below this adFor Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of heavy to very heavy rain in Aravalli, Anand, Dahod, Mahisagar Panchmahal, Vadodara, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad; in the districts of Saurashtra- Kutch namely Amreli, Bhavnagar and Botad.Further, heavy rains are expected in Banaskantha, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dang and Tapi; in the districts of Saurashtra- Kutch namely Surendranagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, according to the IMD.Light thunderstorms with lightning and surface wind 30-40 kmph accompanied with light to moderate rainfall is expected across the state till June 25, the IMD stated.The IMD has also issued a warning for fishermen till June 26 for North Gujarat coast, including Jakhau, Mandvi in Kutch, Mundra, Kandla, Navlakhi, Jamnagar, Salaya, Okha, Porbandar; South Gujarat coast covering Muldwarka, Veraval, Diu, Jafrabad, Pipavav, Victor, Bhavnagar, Bharuch, Dahej, Megdalla.
