At IIT Kanpur, his alma mater, RBI Gov offers four ‘guiding principles’

Written by Maulshree Seth Lucknow | June 24, 2025 04:40 IST 2 min readRBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra at IIT Kanpur on Monday (PTI)Recalling his time at IIT Kanpur, RBI Governor and alumnus Sanjay Malhotra offered four guiding principles to the Class of 2025 during the institute’s 58th convocation Monday.Drawing on experiences from his 36-year journey, he urged graduates to “question the status quo”, commit to lifelong learning, to become “trustworthy” leaders, and pursue “virtuous karma”.“This institution transformed my life and my thinking,” Malhotra said. “I still vividly remember my student days here.Life has changed… I could see those changes, it has transformed”.He then distilled his career into four lessons. Malhotra told the students that technology was transforming at a lightning speed; what they learned today would become outdated the next day. Expressing his confidence in the institute for preparing students, he told the students to focus on “self learning”.Malhotra also urged the students to “continue their quest for knowledge”. He said the moment one stops learning, they stop growing and advancing.Citing his days at the United Nations, he said he never stopped questioning the status-quo and advised students to do the same.
