The projects, which include road repair and waste management works, have reportedly drawn complaints related to both the tendering process and execution quality.Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar has ordered an inquiry and directed two superintending engineers to submit detailed reports within two weeks. One of the projects under scrutiny is the ongoing renovation work at the Community Centre in Dadu Majra. Concerns have been raised over the quality of construction materials being used, the manner of execution, and the overall budget utilisation. Residents have alleged that the renovation does not meet expected standards, and the work being carried out appears subpar.Another major issue has emerged in the operation and maintenance of the dry and wet waste processing plant managed by the Solid Waste Management Cell. Complaints have been received regarding irregularities in the handling of the contract awarded for its operation. The plant, meant to process segregated waste efficiently, is reportedly not being managed in line with contractual obligations, raising red flags about accountability and oversight.Questions have also been raised about the repair and installation of PCC tiles on the V5 roads in sectors 34-C and 34-D. Citizens have expressed doubts over the quality and transparency of the work, with apprehensions that the tiles may not have been laid as per specifications, and the repairs might not sustain in the long run.The fourth project facing scrutiny is the biomining initiative at the Dadu Majra dumping ground. The project, aimed at clearing decades-old legacy waste, has sparked concerns regarding the tendering process. Allegations suggest that the tender may have been awarded without due diligence, and questions have been raised over the selection of the contractor and the manner in which the work is being carried out. This is not the first time the MC has been questioned over the quality and transparency of its civic works. In previous years, several projects — ranging from road repairs and park maintenance to streetlight installations — have faced criticism for substandard implementation and alleged financial discrepancies.Kumar has stated that if the reports confirm any irregularities, stringent action will be taken against those responsible, including municipal officials and contractors.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:chandigarhmunicipal corporation
