European Parliament President Roberta Metsola is currently in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to work on regional tensions and de-escalation.“The situation in the Middle East is at inflection point. I’m in Abu Dhabi on behalf of the EP to carry our message to the country’s leadership and representatives of the Gulf region,” Metsola wrote on X following her arrival on invitation by Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council.She described the UAE as a key partner for Europe with which they work to reduce regional tensions, de-escalate and find a path to understanding peace, prosperity security and trade.The Middle East is currently on the verge of destabilisation with international wars in Tehran and Gaza. Yesterday morning, the United States’ intervention in Israel’s war with Iran caused widespread concern of Iran’s upcoming response.It has since closed the Strait of Hormuz – one of the world’s largest shipping routes – said that the US’ involvement actually serve to “expand the scope of the legitimate and various targets of Iranian armed forces, and create the grounds for expanding war in the region”.Referring to US President Donald Trump, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, who is acting as the spokesman of Iran’s retaliatory strikes against Israel said: “Gambler Trump, you may start this war, but we will be the ones to finish it.”This morning Iran announced that it had fired dozens of one-way drones with anti-fortification explosive warheads at Israel.•
