The Forest Department staff intensified vigil in reserve forest areas of the Boath forest division in Adilabad district to track the movement of a tiger that was spotted near a village in the forest fringe three days ago.A cattle grazer of Raghunathpur village claimed to have sighted a sub-adult male tiger in the reserve forest area less than 12 km from the inter-State border with Maharashtra on June 20.Subsequently, the image of the tiger was captured by the camera trap in Boath forest division, prompting the forest officials to step up vigil to monitor the movement of the big cat, sources said. The tiger reportedly crossed into Telangana from the Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in neighbouring Maharashtra and killed a cow in a forest fringe area of Boath mandal on Friday (June 20, 2025), sources further added. The field staff of the Forest Department mounted a vigil and launched awareness programmes on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the forest areas straddling the inter-district border between Adilabad and Nirmal to prevent human-tiger conflict.Published - June 23, 2025 03:40 pm IST
