The body of a 39-year-old man who jumped into the Valapattanam river was found near Matool on Wednesday.The deceased has been identified as C. Rajesh, alias Raju, a resident of Periyattadukkam under the Bekal police station limits. His body was found by fishers on the shore near Matool groyne in Puthiyangadi at around 6 a.m.The incident took place on June 30 when Raju and a 35-year-old woman, also from Periyattadukkam, reportedly jumped into the river together. The woman, reportedly the wife of a police officer, was rescued by the locals shortly, who then immediately alerted the Valapattanam police.The police had launched a search for the missing man, aided by the Fire and Rescue Services personnel, scuba divers and local volunteers.The police had earlier withheld the man’s identity, pending confirmation.
