Over 20 cops guard jailed gangster Neeraj Bawana as he meets ailing wife in hospital

Out on a custodial parole for six hours, gangster Neeraj Bawana was escorted by more than 20 police personnel from the Third Battalion of the Delhi Police as he left Tihar Jail on Tuesday morning to see his ailing wife in a hospital in West Delhi’s Shadipur.This was the first time in nearly three years, according to the police, that Bawana was out on a day-long custody parole. In 2022, he was granted parole to meet his family members.   He has been in jail since 2015.On Monday, the Delhi High Court had given Bawana a day-long custody parole — against the two days demanded by his counsel — to attend to his ailing wife.He had sought permission to sign a consent letter to allow an eye procedure on his wife, saying that both of their families were against their love marriage, and the relatives would not visit the hospital for the paperwork.The police stepped up his security to prevent a possible attack on him by rival gangs, a police officer said.  With 28 cases lodged against him,  the 37-year-old gangster is a known rival of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.Clad in a white shirt — with Balmain (a high-end US fashion label) written on his right sleeve — and blue denims, Bawana came out of the Tihar jail around 10 am on Tuesday and went straight to the Metro Hospital, said officials.He was taken to the hospital in a blue police van, which was followed by a White police vehicle with armed policemen onboard, officials added.Story continues below this adThe accompanying police officers stood guard till 3 pm at the hospital while Bawana was attending to his wife — a SWAT vehicle was also present outside.Meanwhile, two men were also detained for trying to reach Bawana while he was in the hospital.Praveen Yadav, 36, and Nitin Yadav, 32, were both questioned inside the hospital premises and were later sent to a police station for verification of their criminal record, officers said.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Delhi Police
