On Monday, four people were injured in an accident during a Disney cast member preview of the 3.0 version of Test Track at EPCOT. One of the special effects involved in the collision has been turned off since then.Test Track 2.0 (sponsored by Chevrolet) closed in the summer of 2024 to make way for its third refresh in almost three decades of operation at EPCOT. Disney cast member previews of the reimagined World Discovery attraction recently began, and the feedback is overwhelmingly positive.Credit: DisneyAlthough the interactive car design stations are gone, Disney Parks fans say much of the ride’s original nostalgia has returned. A realistic pine scent in the air homages vintage EPCOT, and the ride vehicles have been given a much-needed futuristic paint job. The attraction is once again sponsored by General Motors (GM), as was its first iteration (even though GM owns Chevrolet, many fans missed the vintage GM signage).Unfortunately, some of the first negative news about Test Track 3.0 came out on Tuesday afternoon. BlogMickey has confirmed that on June 30, a Test Track ride vehicle impacted the foam doors that open to reveal the outdoor part of the attraction, as shown in the promotional image below:Credit: DisneyAccording to reports, the foam doors failed to open, and the ride vehicle crashed into them. Four guests were treated on the scene for injuries sustained in the collision, but no one was hospitalized. The foam doors are supposed to fling open as the ride vehicles accelerate toward them, but failed to do so in yesterday’s incident. Fortunately, they’re made out of the light foam to break away if an impact occurs, as they did on Monday. Though the special effect failed, the backup safety mechanisms successfully protected guests from worse injuries.Disney cast member previews continued on Tuesday, but the foam doors have been removed. It’s unclear when or if they will return.Credit: Lee (myfrozenlife), FlickrThe doors add thrill to the transition from inside to outside, as they keep the room dark until the last minute. Disney may adjust the timing of the effect to avoid another collision, but they haven’t made any official statements. The third reimagining of Test Track is set to premiere in the World Discovery neighborhood at EPCOT on July 22, 2025. Disney cast member previews are scheduled to continue through July 10, and Annual Passholder previews of the refreshed attraction begin on July 13.What do you hope to see on Test Track 3.0?
