Samsung's foldable smartphones have become quite durable over the years. The Galaxy Z Fold series also holds the distinction of being the world's first water resistant foldable. However, progress appears to have slowed on the device's IP rating in recent years. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has an IP48 rating and there was hope that we may see this being bumped up to IP68 with the Galaxy Z Fold 7. A new rumor suggests that this may not be the case, and that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will stick with the IP48 rating. Samsung may be keeping the IP68 rating for next yearSamsung was the first brand to introduce IP48-rated foldable phones, keeping up with its tradition of pushing the envelope on durability for foldable phones. So it was understandable to assume that Samsung may also push to become the first to bring IP68-rated foldables. However, a leakster on X points out that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will retain the IP48 rating of its predecessor. This rating highlights the device's protection against tools and wires greater than 1mm and prolonger submersion in water. An IP68 rating would have brought total dust resistance for the device as well, which would have done wonders for its durability. It's not like this is not doable. Google's Pixel 10 Pro Fold expected to arrive later this year is said to be the first foldable with an IP68 rating. It's probably not that Samsung couldn't do this for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, it's likely that it didn't want to at this point in time. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is already a substantial upgrade with a revamped design. Samsung probably thought it would be better to keep the IP68 rating for its successor, which will be more of an incremental upgrade. The post Galaxy Z Fold 7 will not bring a crucial durability upgrade appeared first on SamMobile.
