‘Feel like she meant prisoner treatment’: Woman on TikTok wants ‘princess treatment’ But what she describes sounds more like a hostage situation

Wait 5 sec.

Women’s rights have come a long way in the last few decades, particularly in regards to relationships. However, some still prefer more traditional roles for men and women. The idea of “Princess treatment” isn’t exactly new, but one woman on TikTok has shocked her followers with her rather extreme take on what exactly such treatment entails. TikToker Courtney Joelle caused controversy earlier this month with her video covering the topic. In the 5 minute clip she describes how princess treatment applies to a typical dining experience for her and her husband. She claims she will not talk to the waiters or order her own food, she leaves all that to her husband.  @jojoejoelle Princess Treatment Dining Edition #princesstreatment #princesstreatmentonly #husbandwife #marriage #marriedlife #husband #healthymarriage ♬ original sound – courtney_joelle Not very empowering As you can imagine, the internet had some strong opinions on the matter and the people of TikTok did not hold back. One person called what Courtney was describing “submission dressed up as ‘princess treatment.’” Most took issue with Courtney’s treatment of the restaurant staff as another person wrote, “I don’t like the implication that interacting with others and having autonomy in public makes you “less feminine.”” While it’s not for us to tell other people how to live their lives, this is giving strong Handmaid’s Tale vibes, one commenter even joked, “Do you bring home a take out box for Offred?” Given how the current party in power are seeking to dismantle women’s rights it can be frustrating to see someone like Courtney playing right into Republican’s hands. While most people love being able to choose and do things for themselves it seems Courtney would rather have those choices and freedoms taken away. You have to wonder what it’s all even for? Is it to make her husband feel like a big strong man? When you really think about it it’s just a bit sad really. The response from TikTok Naturally there have been plenty of other TikTok creators who have created video responses mocking Courtney for her controversial stance. TikToker LisaPmarie created an exaggerated parody of the original where she jokes that Courtney is incapable of even chewing her own food and instead relies on her husband to do that for her too. @lisapmarie It doesn’t look appealing. #princesstreatment #funny #genderroles #tradwife Courtney Joelle. ♬ original sound – LisaPmarie Another creator joked that if she was the waitress serving Courtney and her husband at a restaurant she would likely assume it was an abusive spouse situation and call the police. @aoife_mullen1 princess treatment my hole #princesstreatment #tradwife #tradwivesoftiktok ♬ original sound – Aoife The fact is this is simply not princess treatment, it’s something else, some would maybe go as far as to say it’s an actual fetish being played out in public. Whatever it is, it’s concerning and shouldn’t be normalized. If Courtney and her husband want to engage in this sort of behavior outside then that’s on them, but you can understand why people get concerned when this sort of thing starts getting normalized. We’ve all seen The Handmaid’s Tale and we don’t want it thanks.
