Stretch of Highway 11 reopens, police ask public to stay sheltered in place

Police say Highway 11 has fully reopened, but continue to ask the public to shelter in place following an incident that closed a stretch of the roadway in both directions for around four hours this morning.Ontario Provincial Police say they removed vehicles from the closure area in the Severn township, and asked anyone caught in traffic to stay in their vehicles with the doors locked.Police say Highway 11 was closed between Severn River Road and Coopers Falls Road and between Canning Road and Graham Road.OPP announced the closure of the major artery into cottage country just after 7 a.m. this morning and issued a public safety advisory on social media, asking people to avoid the area.Police cite an ongoing investigation, but say no other information is available at this time.OPP is asking anyone who has noticed anything suspicious to contact police.This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 1, 2025.
