The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has announced that bulk users who will adopt dual piping and use treated grey water for non-potable purposes will be incentivised by the Board.“We will prepare a proposal to incentivise bulk users who adopt dual piping and place it before the Board in the next meeting,” said V. Ram Prasath Manohar, Chairman, BWSSB. “If they adopt dual piping, they will already be saving on their water bill. But the Board will incentivise them further, probably through a discount on the bill,” he said.Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar had recently batted for dual piping to be adopted in the city like in Delhi. Mr. Manohar held a meeting with bulk users in the city on Tuesday. Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Manohar said that the Board wants to harness solar energy in the infrastructure available to them, and aims to ensure that 80% of the energy needs of the Board are drawn from solar power that harnesses on its own.“The biggest component of our expenses is the power bill. Bescom charges us ₹6.5 per unit, while it provides residential power at ₹5.5 per unit. Of every ₹100 we spend to provide water, ₹70 is spent on power bills. To overcome this, we want to harness solar power,” he said. Published - July 01, 2025 09:30 pm IST
