Shena Skies, a recognized singer and songwriter, has opened up about some of the challenges songwriters face in the music industry. Speaking in a heartwarming interview, she explained that when working with artists, songwriters often end up earning a ‘day fee’ and the rest becomes history. “Right now, most of the songwriters just earn a ‘day fee’, and that is all. After that, an artist completely forgets about you, even when they hold a concert, they can’t credit you,” Shena Skies stated. She shared how most of the Ugandan artists fear doing paperwork for the fair share of royalties earned from streaming platforms. A person who would have earned from streaming, you find that even our big artists in Uganda have very few views. Most of the artists don’t want to do paperwork to share streaming royalties.Skies also discussed the hardships she faced when she wrote Diamond Platnumz a song on a gentleman’s agreement, and later got her account blocked just when she had started receiving cash from the digital platforms. Rema Namakula praises Shena Skies for writing hit songs behind the scenes“He (Diamond Platnumz) put himself as the songwriter because we had a gentleman’s agreement. On that project, I learned that someone can make money from streams since they get many views. The money had started coming, but my account got blocked,” Shena Skies. She stressed that it is the same challenge she faced when she wrote a song for Spice Diana and Mbosso. “I also wrote a song for Spice Diana and Mbosso, a similar saga happened. Right now, my DM is still blocked.” @radio4uganda “Spice Diana and Diamond Platnumz are some artists who have never credited my work, despite me writing good songs for them.” – Shena Skies #Radio4KiwoowoFriday || #Radio4UG ♬ original sound – RADIO 4 ENSUNSUZI The post Shena Skies discusses songwriter challenges in the music industry appeared first on MBU.
