The Gurgaon city police arrested a man Wednesday morning for allegedly driving an SUV recklessly, endangering lives, and ramming into a police emergency response vehicle (ERV) near the Sikanderpur Metro station.The accused, identified as Bharat, 26, from Salawatpur Khedi in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended after a high-speed chase and public altercation, said the police.The incident unfolded on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, when the DLF Phase-2 police station received a vehicle tracking (VT) alert about a suspicious black Scorpio with black-tinted windows and no rear number plate. The ERV-246 team, stationed under the Metro station, spotted the vehicle speeding towards IFFCO Chowk.Bharat allegedly ignored police signals to stop, broke through a barricade at IFFCO Chowk, and continued driving recklessly along M G Road. The chase ended back at Sikanderpur Metro station, where a crowd prompted Bharat to stop.In an attempt to flee, he allegedly reversed the vehicle, striking the police ERV and causing damage. The gathered crowd assaulted Bharat and his fellow passenger, Sahil Tanwar, before the police intervened, calming the situation. Upon investigation, only Bharat was found culpable and arrested since Tawar was not intoxicated.The police booked Bharat at the DLF Phase-2 police station under relevant sections for reckless driving, endangering lives, obstructing government duties, and damaging public property. They recovered the Scorpio vehicle and liquor bottles found inside it.
