The new toilet block is being constructed by demolishing an old existing Residential, Commercial, and Industrial (RCC) toilet block. However, citing its construction on a footpath, Narwekar has alleged that the project lies in violation to the BMC’s own ‘pedestrian first policy’. According to Narwekar, the toilet will also hurt the Grade I heritage precinct of Kala Ghoda.“This project is putting citizens’ safety at risk and creating obstructions in pedestrian friendly footpaths. BMC is spending crores to build toilets on footpaths by violating its own policy to meet their targets. It is nothing but wasteful expenditure,” wrote Narwekar in a letter to the BMC commissioner, Bhushan Gagrani, requesting for the work to be stopped on the project.According to the civic work order, the project will be executed at a cost of 1.71 crore over the course of 12 monthsStay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:BMCcolaba
