Will He Or Won’t He? All Eyes On Delia As Borg Makes His Move

Wait 5 sec.

All eyes are now on Adrian Delia as the political spotlight turns to whether he will formally submit his nomination for PN leader.Delia announced his intention to contest the election on Monday, but has not yet submitted his candidature.Meanwhile, PN MP Alex Borg announced his intention to contest the leadership on Tuesday night and submitted his candidature the following morning. While Borg described it as a “race between friends”, Delia has remained silent since the Gozitan MP announced his bid, and rumours are spreading that he may be having second thoughts. Some of Delia’s canvassers criticised Borg on social media yesterday, accusing him of breaking a gentleman’s agreement that Delia should be leader while Borg should be deputy leader. However, Borg said he has no intention of getting into pacts.Meanwhile, Franco Debono – who recently said he is exploring a potential PN leadership bid – hasn’t yet publicly stated whether he will throw his hat into the ring or not.A number of surveys indicate that Borg is the overwhelming favourite among PN members to serve as the next leader, followed by Delia and Debono, which means that any potential contender could face an uphill battle. The deadline for nominations is Sunday at 2pm.•
