Heavy rains lash Saurashtra and South Gujarat districts, orange alert issued till July 2

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Navsari, Valsad, Rajkot, Junagadh and Kutch on Friday, the weather department stated.Districts of Saurashtra and South Gujarat region, including Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Porbandar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, and Morbi, received heavy rainfall on Thursday.Among the 170 talukas affected by the downpour in Gujarat, Maliya Hatina in Junagadh received the highest amount of rainfall – of 135 mm – till 8pm on Thursday. This was followed by Mahuva in Surat that recorded 121 mm, Visavadar in Junagadh (118 mm), Khergam in Navsari (108 mm), Talala in Gir Somnath (102 mm), Chikhli in Navsari (102 mm), Bardoli in Surat (88 mm), Ranavav in Porbandar (82 mm), and Kalyanpur in Devbhoomi Dwarka and Kamrej in Surat (81 mm each).Owing to a trough from northeast Arabian Sea to low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal across south Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for certain districts till July 2.While a yellow alert against heavy rainfall has been issued for the entire state till July 2, light thunderstorms with lightning and surface wind of 30-40 kmph accompanied with light to moderate rain is expected across Gujarat till June 30.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Navsari, Valsad, Rajkot, Junagadh and Kutch on Friday, the weather department stated.For Saturday, an alert against very heavy rain has been issued for Banaskantha and Patan, Jamnagar, Morbi, Dwarka and Kutch.
