Six crude bombs were recovered from an isolated compound in Mangattidam, a Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] stronghold at Koothuparamba in Kannur on Tuesday.Based on a tip off, the police carried out a search in the area and came across the bomb, which was found wrapped in a plastic carry bag.Following the recovery, District Congress Committee president Martin George alleged that the CPI(M) is once again attempting to incite communal unrest in Kannur by stockpiling crude bombs in its strongholds. “The bombs recovered are not old and appear to have been manufactured recently. With local body elections approaching, there is a clear attempt to spread fear and unrest among the public, “ Mr. George said in a statement. He criticised the police for failing to conduct timely raids to track down bomb- making units, claiming that both the CPI(M) and the Bharatiya Janata Party have been operating such centres within their strongholds.“These centres are fuelling anxiety among people. Local leaders are complicit, and the authorities have shown little interest in investigating the source of explosive,” he added.Published - July 01, 2025 10:00 pm IST
