In a bid to curb illegal vehicle modifications, the Hyderabad traffic police hosted an awareness programme for traders dealing in dark film, sirens, musical and multi-tone horns, modified silencers, number plates and other vehicle alterations. The session was attended by over 250 shop owners, automobile workshop operators, mechanics and registration number plate manufacturers in the city.Addressing the gathering, Hyderabad Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) P. Viswa Prasad warned that those found violating the Motor Vehicles Act would be treated as guilty. He emphasised legal obligations of traders to educate their customers about the restrictions in place and maintain proper records of all modifications carried out.Prohibition of black film on vehicle windows remained a key concern. As per Central Motor Vehicle Rule 100, front and rear windscreens must have a minimum of 70% visual light transmission, while side windows must allow at least 50% visibility. The use of black film, which can obstruct vision and pose a security risk by aiding criminal activities, remains strictly banned, the official said.Traders were reminded multi-toned horns and other unauthorised sound-producing devices and modification of silencers is prohibited.
