Situation UpdateGaza Strip• General updates• No attacks on health have been recorded since the ceasefire took effect on 19 January 2025.• In January 2025, 24 out of 28 environmental samples collected from Khan Younis and Deir Al-Balah tested positive for circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2). A polio vaccination campaign is scheduled for 22–26 February 2025, targeting over 591,000 children under 10 years of age across the Gaza Strip with the novel Oral Polio Vaccine type 2 (nOPV2).• Since January 2025, the Nutrition Cluster has reported screening 83 106 children aged 6-59 months for malnutrition.Of these, 2518 (3%) were admitted to the Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) Programme for malnutrition treatment, including 394 (0.5) with SAM, and 2124 (2.6%) with moderate acute malnutrition (MAM).• WHO and health partners continue to scale-up health operations across the Gaza Strip, re-establishing presence in previously inaccessible areas.• Efforts are underway to urgently re-establish essential health services across the Gaza strip including:Resumption of primary care centers in Gaza City, North Gaza, and Rafah.Several hospitals and PHCs are re-establishing functionality and expanding services: planned expansion of inpatient capacity by 300 beds in Al Shifa Hospital; provision of pediatric care services in Al-Awda Hospital; and inpatient care for psychiatric patients in Qizan Al-Najjar PHC.Replenishment of blood supplies at As-Sahaba and Al-Ahli Arab Hospitals in Gaza City, which are reportedly depleted.Re-establishment of hemodialysis services. According to MOH, approximately 40% of hemodialysis patients have died since October 2023 due to inaccessibility to treatment.Expanding services at severe acute malnutrition stabilization centers (SAM SCs). Three are currently operational in Gaza City (10 beds), Khan Younis (6 beds), and Deir Al-Balah (10 beds).• The Interim Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (IRDNA) for the oPt has been published (link). An estimated $ 4.3 billion is required for Gaza health system recovery in the next 3 years, including 1.75 billion reconstruction costs and $ 2.5 billion service delivery needs.West Bank• Between 7 October 2023 – 14 February 2025, MoH has reported 912 deaths and 7467 injuries across the West Bank.Since January 2025, 76 deaths, including 38 in Jenin, were recorded.• During 2025, WHO has verified 44 attacks on health in the West Bank, resulting in injuries to eight health workers on duty. Movement restrictions have created additional physical barriers, hindering the movement of ambulances and health care workers, impeding access to health services.• Approximately 40 000 people have been displaced across Jenin (20 000), Tulkarm (12 000), Tubas and Tamun. Most seek shelter in private or rented accommodation.• Military operations have caused damage to health points (13 non-functioning) and other critical infrastructure, leading to water contamination with sewage and water shortages in some areas.• Urgent needs include essential medicines, localized trauma capacities and supplies, maternal health services.Access for health workers, ambulances, and patients in need.
