This support is part of a broader EU response to the crisis and accompanies the efforts provided in terms of security and humanitarian aid.This support package represents a vital step in stabilising Haiti's economy and supports the delivery of basic services to the population. The EU is actively working to enhance the resilience of local communities, supporting efforts to combat gang activity and ensuring that the impact of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) is sustainable and long-lasting. The EU's decision to release these funds also constitutes a strong political signal of unwavering support for Haiti at a critical junction in its history.The EU's support is aimed at stabilizing Haiti's macroeconomic framework while promoting ongoing reforms. Beyond addressing immediate economic needs, the assistance focuses on enhancing governance and public financial management, ensuring the Haitian government can effectively meet the long-term expectations of its citizens in areas such as security and essential services. Alongside the budget support programme, the EU also revealed three new initiatives totaling €40 million to advance Haiti's education sector, improve customs administration, and foster the development of North-East Haiti.The EU state-building programme contributes to the macroeconomic stabilization of the country and supports the implementation of Haiti's National Development Plan 2030, targeting social protection and education results. The support includes a comprehensive package of technical assistance, political dialogues and reviews strengthening Haiti's governance and public financial management. The programme supports the essential functions of the State and improves its capacity to deliver basic services to the population in the medium and long term. This relationship, which has gradually been strengthened and enriched, is formalized within the framework of the overall agreement of the European Union with the African-Caribbean-Pacific (ACP) countries, previously known as the Cotonou Agreement, which has since July 2023 become the Samoa agreement following its renegotiation.Despite the numerous economic and structural crises that have constantly affected Haiti, the European Union is determined to remain at the country's side, by gradually adapting its tools and support mechanisms to the new dynamics to be more effective, and effectively help the Haitian population to live in dignity.The Global Gateway StrategyThe Global Gateway strategy represents the EU's commitment to reducing global investment gaps by fostering sustainable connections in the digital, energy, and transport sectors while strengthening education and research systems. It aims to mobilise €300 billion in public and private investments from 2021 to 2027, focusing on sustainable growth and resilient partnerships.
