Tom Kim is arguably one of the slowest players on the PGA Tour! By why? Well, because of his waggling. So much so that one broadcaster said, “A little less waggle might have helped,” when Kim wound up wiping the ball into the rock outline and had to take a drop at Pebble Beach.Criticism because of this is frequent. After the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Michael Kim was asked “Thoughts on Tom Kim, aka the human rain delay?” on X. He simply replied, “He’s slow. Everyone knows that haha what else is there?” trying to sound neutral. But that ended up being a part of a longer conversation where other pro golfers also started criticizing Tom Kim.Then a week later, Kim was in the headlines again during the 2025 WM Phoenix Open. After watching the 22-year-old play, Matt Fitzpatrick’s caddie stated, “Yeah, I’ve fallen asleep on my head covers leaning on the bag waiting for him to hit a shot now and again yeah”. Foster, who carried the bag labeled Fitzpatrick further added, “He’s as slow as it comes, get on with it will you”. Fitzpatrick had missed the cut for the third round and this was just his caddie’s perspective watching from the stands. Imagine what the players paired with Kim might have been experiencing. Now, Kim’s caddie has jumped into his defense as he explained how the issue occurs. Paul Tesori joined the SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio to take the blame for his boss’s delays. The veteran caddie stated that Vijay Singh taught him, “One of the caddy’s responsibilities is the pace of play.” He elaborated on how he has lost weight and is working really hard to make sure everything is ready by the time Kim arrives on the spot. Tesori also stated how caddies should also be communicating with the players regularly to provide them input and keep them on track. He believes that active dialogue between the pro and the caddie can help the former make decisions quickly. And the sooner a player is aware of what’s going on, the less time they spend evaluating their decisions. Tesori thinks that Kim’s popularity plays against him in this situation. He said, “Tom is very, very out there. Ever since the Netflix show (Full Swing), obviously the stuff that he has already done in the Tour, winning 3 times early. He’s got the spotlight on him.”The experienced caddie explains how Kim’s actions are magnified because of his popularity and in this case, it has a negative outcome. To conclude his statement, Tesori mentioned, “It helps pay a lot of the bills, so it’s going to come with some negatives. You have to be prepared for it.” This explains the fact that despite the entire field being slow in the American Express, it was players like Tom Kim who only made the news. Let’s see what he had to say.Tom Kim’s actions confuse an analystTrevor Immelman has a keen observation about Tom Kim’s slow pace issue. During The Fried Egg Golf Podcast, Immelman stated that he had studied many other slow players recently. But what he has observed about Kim is the pro golfer wastes a lot more time just standing over the ball after he has already decided what he is going to do. This seems absurd to him, as normally when other slow players have made up their minds, they just go about hitting the ball.Tom Kim’s methods are viewed as “not normal” or absurd by Immelman. His opinions are valid, as anyone would get frustrated if they saw a player standing on top of the ball in limbo for a prolonged time. This abnormal process makes it difficult for fans to watch Kim go through with a shot. Moreover, it is also a challenge for the broadcast partners to switch around various players efficiently for better viewing experiences.Considering everything, do you also believe Tom Kim is the slowest player on the PGA Tour?
