Executive summaryTo help countries better prepare for future pandemics, the World Health Organization (WHO) has launched PRET - Preparedness and resilience for emerging threats – a technical initiative that applies a “mode of transmission lens” to advance disease pandemic preparedness planning. PRET incorporates the latest tools and approaches for shared learning and collective action established during the COVID-19 pandemic and other recent public health emergencies.PRET’s initial focus is on respiratory pathogens. PRET Module 1: Planning for respiratory pathogens pandemics is intended for use by multisectoral stakeholders involved in preparedness and response planning for respiratory pathogen pandemics at national, regional, and global levels.The Preparedness and resilience for emerging threats (PRET): A Call to Action and Global meeting on future respiratory pathogen pandemics brought together the many stakeholders involved in pandemic preparedness to:galvanize political recognition and support on preparedness and resilience for emerging infectious disease threats.align partners and stakeholders around the new integrated PRET approach for disease pandemic preparedness planning.launch the first module of PRET focusing on respiratory pathogen pandemic preparedness and develop a roadmap for implementation.More than 120 participants representing Member States, partners, and the WHO secretariat attended the meeting. The agenda included presentations, panel discussions, a forecasting exercise, and question and answers sessions. Stakeholders shared experiences and good practices and outlined a roadmap to implement the global vision for respiratory pathogen pandemic preparedness.The PRET initiative and a global call to action was launched on 26 April 2023 to catalyse momentum and action for pandemic preparedness by Member States, partners, and WHO.
