The Secretary to Judiciary, Pius Bigirimana, has threatened to ask all landlords to close buildings housing courts over the continued failure by Ministry of Finance to avail the funds required for the payment of rent, which at times forces him to divert funds meant for other activities in the Judiciary budget, in order to clear rental arrears. He made the threat while appearing before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee where he had been summoned to respond to queries raised in the 2024 Auditor General’s report, that indicated that Judiciary spent Shs790M on payment of arrears yet the said funds hadn’t been included in the Institution’s annual budget.“The alternative is to close the offices and get the judges out…I am not going to offend the law; I’m going to close the offices. It’s not a threat; I’m going to tell the landlords to close the offices and the implication is that cases will not move on and I will do it from here if Members of Parliament insist that I’m offending the law, I’m going to closes the offices,” Bigirimana said. The post Bigirimana Threatens To Ask Landlords To Close Buildings Housing Courts Over Rent Arrears appeared first on Business Focus.
