Samsung retains crown as biggest phone maker in Latin America

Canalys has published an analysis on the smartphone market in Latin America in 2024, and it brings some good news for Samsung.According to the firm, Samsung shipped 42.9 million phones in LATAM, higher than any other brand, giving it a market share of 31%.That’s almost twice as much as its closest rival, Motorola, which shipped 22.8 million devices and had a 17% market share. In the third place is Xiaomi with 22.7 million shipments and 17% market share. Transsion and Honor are in the fourth and fifth place with 12.8 and 8 million shipments and 9% and 6% market share respectively.The research didn’t reveal how many iPhones Apple shipped in Latin America in calendar year 2024. However, it does say that the Cupertino-based tech giant shipped 2.8 million phones in Q4 2024, which is way less than Samsung, which shipped 10.2 million Galaxy devices in that quarter, giving it a top position on the chart.In 2023, Samsung shipped 38.4 million phones in Latin America and had a 32% market share. It means that the brand sold 12% more devices this year. However, it has a lower market share this time because the market grew and others performed better.
