Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has now revealed the words of advice he shared with Djed Spence following another standout display in Spurs’ victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday. It has been an eventful few weeks for Djed Spence, who has been earning plaudits for his performances left, right, and centre. Just a few days ago, following Gary Lineker’s call for Spence to be included in the England squad, Ange Postecoglou backed up the claim, stating that Spence was ready for an international call-up.With confidence sky-high, Spence has declared that he is “coming for everything” amid the national team talks. However, his journey has not been a smooth one. He had to win over his manager after featuring sparingly in the early period of his Spurs career. Since earning his chance, the defender has grabbed it with both hands and Spence has even been rated as the best full-back in the Premier League this year.(Credit: @reclusemedia / Instagram)Ian Wright’s message to Djed Spence after Ipswich Town clashIan Wright has now joined the growing list of admirers. The former Arsenal striker has been discussing Spence’s rise at Tottenham and revealed what he recently told the full-back after yet another Man of the Match display.Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, Wright said: “You know, I want to give flowers to Djed Spence, Tottenham. I want to give flowers to Djed Spence for the way that he has come through and what he has done. “I remember speaking to Djed Spence, watching him now play for Tottenham and watching him being one of the star players, and fingers crossed that he gets a mention for England or gets involved.“I remember when they beat us in the cup, the first time we wore the white shirts, no more red, and we played Forest. He was on loan from Middlesbrough to Forest, and he was the man of the match in that game. “He ripped us apart, and Forest beat us. Afterwards, he came over, I was speaking to him, his mum, I think his dad was there, and his girlfriend was filming. I said to him, my friend, listen, I do not know what is going on at Middlesbrough, why you cannot get into the side.“I do not know what is going on, where you are playing here and ripping this team apart. And he was just kind of like, ‘yeah’. I said, listen, man, do not waste it. You have got something. Do not waste it over anything like, ‘oh, he cannot get on with this person’. Do not waste it.“And then, watching him now for Tottenham, I saw him at the last game. He came over, we had a little chat, and I said, please, Djed, whatever you are doing, continue to do it because it is happening. It is starting to happen. And when I watch him now, I have seen him blast forward, and we have just seen him score the other day.”Spence’s impact and future at TottenhamDjed Spence’s journey is one that every player in the beautiful game can learn from. There are always highs and lows in football, and he has had his fair share of setbacks, spending time out on loan and struggling to make an impact at Tottenham.
