NEP, language rowApprehensions about the language issue in the New Education Policy must be sincerely addressed. India’s diverse cultural identities should not be marred by any of the hegemonic policies imposed by the Centre. We have already seen that it is this issue that has caused much strife in the past. The success of the three-language formula will depend on resources being made available to teachers. Authentic translation of good books from one language to others must be encouraged to inculcate student interest in literature and diversity. Job scenarios must also be done in such a way that people have links with their regional language.Brij B. Goyal,Ludhiana, PunjabCAG reportThe Aam Aadmi Party has already experienced a major setback in the Delhi Assembly election. The CAG’s report only adds insult to injury and may dim the prospects of the party in the long run (“Delhi lost ₹2,000 crore due to excise policy: CAG”, February 26). With corruption charges against party bigwigs, the party seems to have lost its founding mojo — an anti-corruption USP. Yet, all is not lost. The party ought to revisit its policies and can stage a turnaround provided it starts working on its founding principles.Aanya Singhal,Noida, Uttar PradeshDelhi court verdictIf one ever needed proof for the saying ‘justice delayed is justice denied’, he does not need to look beyond the verdict in the Sajjan Kumar case (“Sajjan Kumar gets life term in 1984 riot case”, February 26). Yes, the long arm of the law has shown that even the high and mighty can face justice. But four decades is way too long a period for it to be considered that justice has been delivered. It will not provide much solace to the families of the victims.Bal Govind,Noida, Uttar PradeshThe German resultThe devastating fall for Germany’s Social Democratic Party, unprecedented results for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the win for the Friedrich Merz-led alliance are a lesson for the rest of Europe. The European Union’s attachment with human rights and asylum is wreaking havoc on mainstream politics. The Afd has emerged as a force and may well secure victory the next time.Rahul Chouhan,Ujjain, Madhya PradeshPublished - February 27, 2025 12:24 am IST
