Tottenham player ratings vs Man City – 7/10 star the silver lining in defeat

Wait 5 sec.

The referee has blown his whistle as Manchester City end Tottenham’s three-match winning run in the Premier League, so let’s take a look at our player ratings.Throughout the match, we examined each Tottenham player’s performance, rating them on a scale of 1-10. Here’s how they got on.Tottenham Hotspur player ratings vs Manchester CityGuglielmo Vicario: Made some great saves to keep his side in the game in the first half. With Spurs attacking more as the match went on, his job became more straightforward. 7Pedro Porro: The right-back was nothing short of abysmal in the first half and got dominated by Jeremy Doku. He did play a promising cross across the box which Odobert failed to convert though. 3Archie Gray: It must be frustrating for Gray to still be stuck playing as a centre-back, but you have to slot where you’re needed and he’s doing the best he can. He used his pace when it was needed and wasn’t one of the players at fault for City’s first goal. However, he was dominated by Haaland in what looked like a City goal, but VAR made a controversial decision to disallow it. 5.5Kevin Danso: Made a few blocks during the match and almost got himself a goal on the stroke of half-time. He also made an important slide to prevent Savinho from getting a close-range shot away with a few minutes left to play. 6Destiny Udogie: Defended very poorly in the first half and was the worst player on the pitch except for Porro. He does deserve some credit though as he almost had Tel through on goal just before being substituted. 3Lucas Bergvall: Went on a few good dribbles, but none of the Swede’s contributions helped Spurs get back on level terms. 5Photo by Shaun Botterill/Getty ImagesRodrigo Bentancur: Had a chance to equalise for Spurs with a header, but it was straight at Ederson. Bentancur was involved in the game, but he picked up a yellow card and had to be substituted before he got a second. 5James Maddison: Made four tackles and had plenty of touches, but his impact on the game was limited. Maddison never really looked like he’d be the player to turn things around for Tottenham. 5.5Brennan Johnson: Ghosted throughout the first half, but eventually found his feet in the game. He provided Son with an opportunity to make it 1-1. 4.5Mathys Tel: He failed to control Udogie’s pass just before coming off and that was the only real chance he had. We haven’t seen much from Tel since his goal in the FA Cup against Aston Villa. 3Wilson Odobert: Looked decent on the ball in the first half, but missed one of Tottenham’s best chances ten minutes into the second. Odobert has spent a good few months on the sidelines and showed some promise, but tonight just wasn’t his night. 5Substitutes:Djed Spence: Brought life to Spurs as soon as he came on and played a good pass to Sarr which should have at least resulted in a shot on target. The difference in quality between Spence and Udogie is night and day in the former Middlesbrough man’s favour. 6Pape Matar Sarr: Butchered the shot on goal Spence provided him and picked up a yellow card. He then had a chance to head home at the end to get Spurs a point but he was unable to convert. 3Dejan Kulusevski: Failed to control a ball from Johnson which would have fallen to Maddison and allowed him a chance at a long-range effort. 3Heung-min-Son: Had a shot on goal from a promising position, but failed to challenge Ederson. 4.5Timo Werner: Came on for Maddison fairly late in the game.
