Wait 5 sec.

Political ping pongThe political furore over U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim on USAID funds seems to be growing. It is an old American trait to be poking its nose in another country’s affairs. Mr. Trump needs to get to the bottom of the issue and expose who the beneficiaries of the ‘$21 million fund’ are. Beating the same drum everyday does not help anybody. There has to be a transparent investigation as well as irrefutable proof.Bidyut Kumar Chatterjee,Faridabad, HaryanaIt is a mystery why the U.S. was interested in voter turnout in India and that there was a sum marked for this. As the issue is very serious, and has seen Mr. Trump going at it hammer and tongs, there needs to be a proper investigation. The said amount is huge and embarrassing as far as India is concerned. It must clear the air.Kirti Wadhawan,Kanpur, Uttar PradeshIt is alarming that there are external forces meddling in the internal affairs of the subcontinent. It does not seem to be hearsay but possible fact as the U.S. President himself says so. Whether the funds were meant for India or Bangladesh, such ‘foreign interventions’ could upset bilateral relationships in the region. Perhaps India needs to reach out to regional leaders and ensure that democratic processes remain free from ‘undue external influences’.Parry Garg,Ludhiana, PunjabPolitical change in DelhiThat the BJP has chosen a first-time legislator to lead the city of Delhi shows that the party has taken a calculated risk. The promise is that Delhi will become a world class city, but as the new Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta has her task cut out. She is said to be sincere and should fulfil all promises made to the people in terms of infrastructure, the basic necessities and even in health and education. There must be a focus on the industrial development of Delhi. The days ahead must see an end to false promises.Ravi Mathur,Noida, Uttar PradeshPublished - February 24, 2025 12:24 am IST
