Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union moved from Florida to California to provide a safe space for their daughter. Zaya came out five years ago and since then, the parents have been one of her biggest supporters of the LGBTQIA+ community. However, recently the 17-year-old spoke about her journey and relationship with her parents. Surprisingly, apart from her parents, the founder of Translatable would refer to someone else as her “biggest supporter.”“I don’t have a lot of childhood friends because I moved around a lot. My best friend Lila is one of the only friends I kept and will continue to keep with me.” During an exclusive interview with Seventeen magazine, Zaya added, “There’s an inner circle and then there’s an outer circle. I would say the inner is, like, four, the core four. Those are my girls.” In a further revelation, the 17-year-old called her best friend one true support.“The biggest reason is the sheer level of love and acceptance I get from them. No shade to my family, but in the realest way, Lila is my biggest supporter. She made me realize I have a certain level of power I can use to better myself and others.” So, it may come as a surprise to some, that Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are not on the top of the list. But as a teenager who had to move cities, this shouldn’t be a surprise. As she stated, Zaya does not have too many friends; her ‘inner circle’ is small. That is why she considers her best friend, Lila as one of the strongest friends. But the 17-year-old knows about the backlash her father had to face.SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS – AUGUST 12: Dahveon Morris, Jolinda Wade, Zaya Wade, 2023 inductee Dwyane Wade, Kaavia James Wade, Gabrielle Union and Zaire Wade attend the 2023 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Induction at Symphony Hall on August 12, 2023 in Springfield, Massachusetts.
