At just 15, Coco Gauff took the tennis world by storm, becoming the youngest qualifier in Wimbledon history and stunning Venus Williams in the first round! Her resounding victory propelled her to immediate fame. However, equally significant is Gauff’s steadfast faith, something which has been a constant presence throughout her career. She attended church alongside her mother and grandmother ahead of the Christmas day last year and now, after some time off the court, she once again celebrated another special Sunday at church. However, this time, her entire family was there to share the moment with Gauff, a testament to the deep-rooted faith that continues to guide her in life, as well as in sports.A devoted Christian, Gauff regularly attends Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, where she is even a member of the choir. Time and again, she has spoken about how important faith is for her. She is also often seen praying before her on-court matches. In a past interview with the ‘New York Times’, she reflected on this habit, saying, “Before every match since I was 8, my dad and I say a prayer together,”. Now, after a disappointing run at the Qatar Open and Dubai Open, where she was defeated by Marta Kostyuk and McCartney Kessler in the first round respectively, Coco has returned to her place of comfort at the church. Surrounded by family, she is celebrating a special weekend, finding solace and strength in faith as she looks ahead to her next challenge in the 27-foot court. Her mother and Gauff, a former track and field player from Florida State University, recently shared a carousel of pictures on her own IG account, while celebrating Lee Legacy family weekend and Black History at the church. She wrote, “Amazing day at church celebrating Lee Legacy family weekend and Black History at church. Great job Lillian, Cameron, and PJ on their oratorical presentation. It is always a pleasure seeing family and friends at church,”.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Candi Odom Gauff (@candigauff)However, this isn’t the first time the entire Gauff family has come together to celebrate their faith. On March 30th, 2024, the entire family, including Corey, Candi, Coco, Codey, and Cameron, gathered at church to honor the resurrection of ‘Jesus Christ’ on the third day after his crucifixion. Marking the special occasion, the WTA No. 3 even shared a heartfelt moment on her IG Story, writing, “Happy Resurrection Day! Church day with the family.” Even on last year’s Christmas Eve, Coco, along with her mother Candi, and grandmother, Yvonne, posed in front of a beautifully decorated Christmas tree while quoting, “3 generations @candigauff @yonne.odom”.Exploring the Gauff family’s spiritual side further, did you know that the 9-time WTA Tour-level singles titles winner is an avid reader of the Bible?“I read the bible every day” — Coco Gauff shares her daily habit of reading the Holy BibleCoco Gauff’s 2025 season has had a rocky start. While she celebrated a team victory at the United Cup in Sydney with Team USA, she also faced major early exits: falling in the AO quarterfinals against Paula Badosa, the Qatar Open (R32), and the Dubai Open (R32). Yet, despite these setbacks, she has already achieved what many 20-year-old tennis players can only dream of: winning a Grand Slam! Through it all, Coco’s faith remains unwavering, as she continues to thank God after every match, regardless of the results she gets. But what exactly does she pray for after her match? More titles? Greater success in the court? In an interview with the New York Times, Gauff revealed the true essence of her prayers, offering a deeper glimpse into her spiritual character.“We don’t really pray about victory, just that me and my opponent stay safe,” she added. Before clinching her maiden GS title at Flushing Meadows, Coco made an impressive run to the Roland-Garros final in 2022, only to be defeated by Polish Iga Swiatek in the championship match. Reflecting on her journey and growth from that setback, she shared, “That French Open loss was a heartbreak. I realized God puts you through trials. This makes this moment even sweeter than I could imagine,“. In August of last year, she also shared one of her regular habits: reading the Bible to compartmentalize her thoughts and channel them in a spiritual direction for better insights into her life. “I have two journals, I read the bible every day. Then I have a personal one where I just write usually the night before I play. It’s something I’ve always done but just do it more frequently because it holds you accountable for your feelings and your thoughts,” Coco revealed. With faith in God, the American No. 1 aims to turn her season around as her season, so far, has not met expectations.
