Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made the announcement at an event in Nagpur adding that the decision was taken to ensure financial stability to farmers (Express Photo)The Maharashtra government on Monday announced to increase the amount provided to farmers under the NaMo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojna (NSMNY) from Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000.Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made the announcement at an event in Nagpur adding that the decision was taken to ensure financial stability to farmers. Farmers in Maharashtra get an annual amount of Rs 6,000 under the Centre’s PM-Kisan Yojna and an equivalent amount under the state’s NSMNY in three installments.With enhanced amount, farmers in the state will now get an annual amount of Rs 15,000. The increase in the NSMNY amount was one of the promises made by BJP in its manifesto ahead of the recent Assembly elections and the decision is set to feature in the state Budget for 2025-26.“Under the PM-KISAN Yojna, an annual amount of Rs 6,000 is given to farmers in three installments. The state government gives a matching grant of Rs 6,000 every year. Now, the state’s grant will be increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000. Thus, the farmers will receive a total amount of Rs 15,000,” Fadnavis said.Fadnavis was speaking at the event held in Nagpur as Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 19th installment of PM-Kisan Yojna at Bhagalpur in Bihar.Minister of state for agriculture Ashish Jaiswal also attended the event. “ The annual allocations under PM-Kisan and Namo Shetkari Sanman Yojna is a step to lend a helping hand to farmers to cope with the financial crisis. The assured funds have brought some relief to the farmers across state and country,” Fadnavis said.During the event, Fadnavis also spoke about the water conservation projects undertaken by the government through Jalyukta Shivar Yojna to make water accessible for irrigation and tackle drought in the state.Story continues below this adIn Vidarbha region alone, 89 irrigation projects have been completed, the CM said adding that almost 150 irrigation projects are under way and have got revised administrative approval.Fadnavis also said that the entire agriculture grid will be shifted to solar energy in the next five years. “In the last one year, one lakh farmers have been provided solar power,” he said.© The Indian Express Pvt Ltd
